When a brand-new super-hospital in Saudi Arabia needed thousands of metres of medical copper pipe for the build, they called on UK-based manufacturer and supplier Lawton Tubes to deliver the goods.
Dr Sulaiman Al-Habib Medical Group (HMG) is the largest provider of comprehensive healthcare in the Middle East. Established in 1995, the group currently operates 20 medical healthcare facilities across Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Bahrain, as well as developing the first private medical city in Saudi Arabia.

As part of HMG’s mission to provide state-of-the-art medical care and facilities, the group is nearing completion of a new super-hospital in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh. The £147m mega-project, which has taken two years to complete, covers 44,000 square metres – an area roughly the size of six football pitches – and incorporates 22 floors.
Even more incredibly, the entire build called for an astounding 80,000m of medical copper pipe – all of which was supplied and exported by UK-based manufacturer and supplier, Lawton Tubes.
“We carry all our medical gas tube and accessories ex-stock,” explains Lawton’s medical and international sales manager, David Reberio. “This enables us to give quick delivery to meet customer demands – in fact, once we receive an order, we aim to ship within three weeks.”
The £300k contract saw Lawton transport its medical copper piping, copper fittings, brass munsen rings, and silver brazing rod over 4,000 miles from its warehouse in Coventry to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s biggest city. No small undertaking!
“Once we give the order to operations and agree a delivery date, we book a shipping container and load the order into 40ft open-top containers via overhead cranes,” David says. “Orders normally take around 3-4 weeks to reach customers via sea in countries such as Saudi Arabia, which is why it’s key that Lawton Tubes hold everything in stock, so we can react quickly to any requirements that our customers have. Then it’s down to the customer to deliver to site and install the goods.”

All medical copper pipe and accessories supplied by Lawon Tubes has been used to construct the hospital’s all-important medical gas system, which carries gas such as oxygen from the plant room to the patient bed.
